Rich Text Editor (RTE)

Comprehensive guide to inline text editing, markdown pasting, rich formatting tools, LaTeX formula insertion, and floating canvas controls.

The Rich Text Editor (RTE) activates automatically whenever a text block is selected or focused on the canvas. It allows you to edit content inline, paste formatted rich text or Markdown, insert LaTeX mathematical formulas, and apply character- and paragraph-level styling.

Direct Canvas Editing & Formatting

Inline Editing: Click directly inside any text block on the canvas surface to edit copy or invoke dynamic slash commands (/).
Rich Text & Markdown Support: Paste formatted text directly from external tools (e.g., Google Docs, Word) or use native Markdown shortcuts (such as # for headings, ** for bold text, or * for bullet points).

When a text block is active, the top toolbar provides formatting controls arranged from left to right:

1. Typography & Hierarchy

Block Format Dropdown: Switch paragraph semantics between Paragraph, Heading 1, Heading 2, or Heading 3.
Font Family Dropdown: Select specific typefaces or set to inherit to pull from global Theme Manager rules.
Font Size Controls: Adjust typography size using the - and + buttons, or type a pixel value directly (Default: 16).

2. Inline Character Styles

Bold (B): Applies bold font weight.
Italic (I): Applies italic font style.
Underline (U): Adds an underline stroke below text.
Strikethrough (S): Draws a horizontal line through text.
Hyperlink (🔗): Converts selected text into an active link with target URL parameters.

3. Colors & Alignment

Text Color (A Dropdown): Applies custom foreground color to selected text.
Highlight Color (A Fill Dropdown): Applies a background highlight color behind selected characters.
Alignment Menu: Align text Left, Center, Right, or Justify.

4. Lists & Block Formatting

Numbered List (1. 2.): Creates ordered numerical lists.
Bulleted List (•): Creates unordered bulleted lists.
Blockquote (”): Formats selected text inside a styled callout quote block.
Line Height / Spacing (↕): Adjusts line spacing or vertical text placement within the block.

LaTeX & Mathematical Formulas

The RTE provides integrated support for embedding and rendering mathematical notation using LaTeX syntax.

LaTeX Tool (Σ): Click the Sigma (Σ) button in the toolbar to insert a LaTeX mathematical expression.
Formula Rendering: Supports standard LaTeX math symbols, expressions, fractions, superscripts, and subscripts (e.g., \frac{a}{b}, \sqrt{x}, or \sum_{i=1}^{n}).
